Ingredients:
- 500 grams all-purpose flour
- 10 grams salt
- 10 grams sugar
- 200 milliliters warm milk
- 1 packet (7 grams) active dry yeast
- 1 egg (optional)
- Vegetable oil for frying

Prepare the dough:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and sugar.
- Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well. If using, add the egg and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Shape and fry the dough:
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- Take small portions of the dough and shape them into balls or flatten them slightly.
- Carefully drop the dough pieces into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the petulla from the oil and drain on paper towels.
