Moldavian skewers

Ingredients:

1 kg pork (or a mixture of pork and beef)

2 large onions, cut into rounds

3-4 cloves of garlic, finely chopped

100 ml of oil

100 ml white wine (optional)

1 teaspoon sweet paprika

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

Lemon juice (optional, for the marinade)

Skewers (wooden or metal)

 

 

Instructions:

Preparation of the meat:

Cut the meat into cubes of about 3-4 cm.

In a large bowl, mix the oil, white wine, paprika, thyme, garlic, salt and pepper.  Add lemon juice if you want a more sour taste.

Add the meat cubes and the sliced ​​onions to the marinade.  Mix well to coat all the meat and leave to marinate in the fridge for at least 2 hours (ideally overnight).

 

Preparing the skewers:

Stick the meat cubes and onion rings on the skewers, alternating them.

If using wooden sticks, soak them in water for 30 minutes before using them to prevent them from burning on the grill.

 

Cooking:

Preheat the grill to medium heat.

Place the skewers on the grill and cook for 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is cooked through and golden brown.

 

Service:

Serve warm Moldovan skewers with fresh bread, garlic sauce and a seasonal salad.  They are perfect for an outdoor meal or a family gathering.
